The Queens area was first colonized in the 1600â€™s by Dutch settlers as part of making this area the New Netherlands. Early settlements of this area include what is now Flushing, New York and Jamaica, New York. The Queens area had a major role in the American Revolution, as compared to its sister borough Brooklyn. Within the city limits of Jamaica there are a couple of colleges and universities that you could attend after your primary schooling. Since the majority of Jamaica rents, you will see the frequent subway trips on the subway for the students of the university. When wanting to study and the students feel the confines of their dorm room, apartment or the community study hall at school are not good enough, they can visit Queens library. The Library is the nations highest public library system. There are two different branches you can get to depending on the convenience.

Almost directly east of Hollis , is the great, in population, city of Brooklyn where there is are endless possibilities. You can come tour the whole world by visiting Brooklyn. Brooklyn can give you tastes of the cuisines from Asia, South and Central America, Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East and Caribbean all on the same day. Here, even the international tourists, can find some part of their culture on the streets of Brooklyn in terms of food, shops or architecture. If you are looking to find a way to get around the city, there will be no problem with using the bus or subway system. Luckily for you, there are maps of where you can get on the subway or bus and where they let you off.

When looking for entertainment in Brooklyn, you can visit the local sports baseball team or you can visit numerous art galleries, parades, and street festivals. The great thing about Hollis is that it is so close to these major cities. There are many people that decide to live in Hollis and make that commute to its surrounding large populated neighbors. Hollis might not have the happening entertainment life that Brooklyn or Jamaica has, but at least is not as expensive to live there. With Brooklyn and Jamaica being so large, some people might feel they are getting lost in the shuffle.
